Pinoy Oblates of Saint Anthony De Padua
PINOY OBLATES OF SAINT ANTHONY DE PADUA
Community at the Church of St Anthony, Woodlands, Singapore (since 2001)
About Us
The POSAP Filipino Community was formed in May 1, 2001 by four migrant Filipino
families, with the support of the Filipino Community of the Church of Our Lady Star
of the Sea in Yishun and Migrant Chaplain Fr Angel C. Luciano. The community was
founded with the basic goal of reaching out to the migrant Filipino parishioners
of St Anthony and establishing a pastoral presence.
POSAP stands for Pinoy Oblates of Saint Anthony de Padua and as the name suggests,
dwells on pastoral integration among the Filipino migrant families in the parish
and the larger community as a whole.
Then Parish Priest Fr John Koo welcomed POSAP as a member of the Pastoral Council
and in December 2001, the first ever Simbang Gabi (9-day Novena Masses held in various
churches in Singapore) was held in St Anthony, attended by close to 900 Filipino
migrant workers, families and some of their employers. Since then, the Church of
St Anthony has been part of the annual Simbang Gabi celebrations.
In January 2002, the monthly Tagalog mass, led by Fr Angel C. Luciano, had come
to St Anthony, and has been regularly held since, on the fourth Saturday of the
month.
In October 2002, POSAP founded the Marian devotion group in the Admiralty and Sembawang
areas, wherein monthly Rosary prayers are being held on second Saturdays. Known
as the FRC or Family Rosary Crusades, this monthly activity is geared towards encouraging
families to pray the Rosary together in migrant families’ households. It was also
intended to be a time where member-families gather and share food and experiences,
blessings and challenges.
The community also has its own choir, comprising of adult members and are in the
process of training the young ones to replace it someday.
On the Feast day Food Fest, Filipino snacks are being prepared and sold to all parishioners.
Some of our regular members also participate in the church’s Music Ministry, on
the 6pm choir. We strive to participate in parish activities and in the process
integrate our community with the entire parish spectrum. With the support of Frs
Terence, Vincent and Cyril and with God’s grace, we will succeed.
